DESTINY

You often meet your destiny on the path you choose to avoid it.

This week in the soap opera of real estate with its twists and turns, the course of destiny is highlighted and we see how wily and wicked are its ways. Sometimes, I find that the simplest way is the way we should go, but we often look abroad and see what we think is better… Greener grass… More money… A tastier client.. A choicier piece of meat. We see it off in the distance, and we think, “That I must have!” And we do everything to get it. Inevitably and almost unavoidably, we collide with the destiny of exactly what we were trying to avoid.

I had a seller this week who was looking for the perfect buyer for their house.

They wanted someone who would care for the house in the way they had cared for it… Someone not interested in tearing it down and building a monster in its place. They had groomed the house and groomed the neighbourhood for years. They wanted to maintain the integrity of the street even after they left. Noble aspirations indeed.

But, and here’s the rub, we can’t control what others do or choose. Buyers came along with a significant amount of money and on paper, right down to their well-crafted letter, they seemed perfect. My seller chose them.

They weren’t perfect… And in fact, less than a week later they were itching for a way out of the deal. The moment with 5 offers and my seller’s choice of buyer had come and gone and best intentions had led to the destiny we were trying to avoid. It drips with irony like a wet shirt waiting for a spin cycle.

In an unbelievable turn of events, the buyer was released from the deal, lost their deposit, and the buyer we had wanted all along, the one who couldn’t afford it, but was lovely and enamoured with the house, could now buy it.. With a little help from a forfeiture of deposit!

If I believed in Gods, I would say that they were laughing at us. I couldn’t have written the story better myself.

This real estate market is wild and sometimes wonderful… (FULL of wonder).

Right now, the Toronto market is tearing it up again. There are literally 8 houses on the market (Okay, that’s an exaggeration), but there aren’t many. There are multiple offers and bully offers. Supply and demand law rules this day. If you have been waiting to sell, wait no more. If you are looking to buy, get serious and know what you want and be prepared to get it. Finished product is going for big dollars and work projects are more reasonable and easier to acquire. Marvellous things can happen in real estate. There is no end to the flabbergasting situations I often find my sellers and buyers faced with. I am stilled with awe and joy and the power of destiny to lead us to where we should have been in the first place.

Know this;

If it’s for you, it won’t go by you.
